The Young Mathematicians Conference (YMC) series provides a national conference for undergraduate student researchers in mathematics to present their results and discoveries in talks and poster presentations, as well as discuss research ideas and experiences with their peers.

An ever increasing number of students involved in REU's and similar research programs from all over the United States apply each summer to actively participate in YMC. Accepted students are invited with full support to the conference during a weekend in August at the Department of Mathematics of the Ohio State University. The abstracts and schedules of past student presentations are linked below.

Highlights of every conference are three plenary lectures by highly accomplished researchers and teachers, which introduce students to advanced, innovative, and exciting topics in mathematics. Speakers in the past included recipients of prestigious MacArthur and Sloan Fellowships, Pólya and Nevanlinna Prizes, as well as of the Haimo, Chauvenet, and Allendoerfer Awards for excellence in exposition and teaching.

Video streams of plenary lectures can be viewed below.

In addition to student and plenary presenters YMC regularly invites faculty mentors of undergraduate research projects. Besides chairing sessions and accompanying mentees they exchange their experiences during the traditional mentor breakfast as well as other social occasions.

In most previous years the YMC weekend overlapped with the Ross Program for gifted high school students at Ohio State. YMC thus provides for many Ross participants a first exposure to mathematical research at an accessible level.

The Young Mathematicians Conference series started in the summer of 2003 and, until 2006, was supported by the NSF/VIGRE grant awarded to the Department of Mathematics (DMS-0135308 2002-2007). The YMC 2007 conference was supported by its own NSF grant DMS-0732622, as well as private donations (DWME). We are currently seeking funding for future YMC conferences.
