Transfer Credit Evaluation

  • To determine course equivalencies from in-state schools, see https://oh.transfer.org/cas/index.jsp
  • All transfer students need to have all general and deferred credit in mathematics further evaluated before attending an orientation session, scheduling courses, or taking the math placement exam. It is possible that this evaluation could exempt you from the math placement test. If your math credits are not evaluated,
    • you may have to take the mathematics placement test
    • you may not be eligible for science courses
    • you may be misplaced in mathematics
    • you may duplicate a class you have already taken

  • If the front page of your transfer credit report says to take the math placement test, then you need to test. If the placement exam is not taken online prior to or on the day of your Orientation, then the exam must be taken on campus in the Testing Center with a referral from the Math Counseling office, 250 Math Building.
  • To have your mathematics credit evaluated, please provide the Math Counselors with a copy of your Transfer Credit Report (TCR), a copy of your transcript, and materials from your previous university or college. We would prefer that you have a detailed description of the topics that were covered, which usually means that we need a syllabus and/or textbook to do the evaluation. Course descriptions that are listed in a course catalog do not necessarily contain enough information for us to do a transfer credit evaluation. These descriptions are often too brief and sometimes incorrect.
  • Credit evaluations can be done during the walk-in hours. (See the main page for hours that we will be available.) However, it should be noted that counselors are NOT AVAILABLE for evaluation during your orientation program. Information can also be faxed to us at 614-292-0167. Faxes should include the materials stated above. If you send in the info by fax, please provide us with some way that we can reach you once the evaluation is complete (phone number, email address). In addition, materials can be mailed to: Math Counseling Office, 250 Math Building, 231 W. 18th Ave., Columbus, OH 43210.
  • INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS: It is extremely important for you to obtain some information about the courses that you completed overseas prior to leaving the country. This will eliminate a long delay in processing of your credit since we have little information on file for the international schools.
