The Department of Mathematics in the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at The Ohio State University anticipates having several tenured and tenure track positions beginning Autumn Quarter 2009. We are interested in all areas of pure and applied math, including mathematical biology and financial mathematics. Postdoctoral positions
The Department of Mathematics in the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at The Ohio State University anticipates having several Hans J. Zassenhaus Assistant Professorships and Arnold Ross Assistant Professorships beginning in Autumn Quarter 2009. The teaching load for a Zassenhaus Assistant Professor in the first year is 2-1-1 (two courses in the autumn quarter and one course in each of the winter and spring quarters). In the second and third years the teaching load is 2-2-1. The teaching load for a Ross Assistant Professor is 3-2-2. These term positions are renewable annually for up to a total of three years Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in mathematics and to present evidence of excellence in teaching and research. Mathematical Biosciences
The Department of Mathematics in the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at The Ohio State University expects to have openings at both the junior and senior level in the area of mathematical and computational biology.
Applicants should have a PhD in mathematics or a related area, such as mathematical sciences, biomathematics, biology, chemistry, computer science, physics, and engineering and should show outstanding promise and/or accomplishments in both research and teaching. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the Mathematics Department and actively participate in the Mathematical Biosciences Institute. Assistant Professor in Mathematical Biology
The Department of Mathematics invites applications for a tenure-track position in Mathematical Biology in the Colleges of Biological and Mathematical and Physical Sciences. The position will be 80% in the Department of Mathematics and 20% in an appropriate Biological Sciences department, which will be determined based on the successful candidate’s area of specialization. The Department of Mathematics will serve as the tenure initiating unit. Preference will be given to mathematicians with interest in areas such as ecology, population genetics and evolutionary biology. The appointee will be part of a growing faculty in the area of mathematical biology at Ohio State, with opportunities to participate in the activities of the Mathematical Biosciences Institute, a National Science Foundation-funded national institute located at The Ohio State University. Through research and teaching, the appointee will contribute to bridging biology and mathematics at Ohio State.

Elementary and Middle-school Education teaching faculty positions
The Department of Mathematics in the College of Mathematical and Physical Sciences at The Ohio State University has one teaching faculty position available. The initial appointment will be for a one-year term, but will be renewable annually on a continuing basis, contingent on favorable annual reviews.
Candidates should have specific interest and experience in teaching mathematics courses for pre-service elementary and middle school teachers, and in the development and redesign of courses in this area.
Candidates are expected to have a Master’s degree in mathematics and a Ph.D. in mathematics or mathematics education. They should present evidence of excellence in teaching. Prior experience with teacher education is also desirable. Although the position is primarily a teaching position, candidates with an active research program in mathematics or mathematics education are welcome to apply.
