Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I'm very pleased to announce that Cindy Bernlohr has won a Distinguished Staff Award for 2005. This is a university-wide honor that recognizes up to 12 of Ohio State's finest staff members each year.
As you all will know, Cindy's primary responsibilities center on support of graduate teaching assistants (GTA's), classroom assignment for part-time lecturers (PTL's) as well as their recruitment, training and evaluation. To this enormously complex job Cindy brings significant mathematical knowledge, superb organizational and interpersonal skills, impeccable judgement and a deep sense of responsibility toward this university and its students.
Cindy knows each one of our graduate students personally. She knows not only their strengths as teachers but also their hopes, their struggles and their aspirations as mathematicians. In one way or another, over the years, her work has directly benefited hundreds of our graduate students and, indirectly, many thousands of undergraduate students at Ohio State. This Distinguished Staff Award recognises her fundamental contribution to the teaching mission of the Mathematics Department and the university as a whole.
Please join me in congratulating Cindy on this well-deserved honor.
Best wishes,
Peter
