Notice: MML will let the students work on a particular question only a couple of times before it gives them the answer. If the students hit the "similar question" button, they can work on a similar question, and if they get that right, then that question will be counted as correctly done.

The first part of 12.1 will be covered in Wednesday's lecture, which will include increasing and decreasing functions along with their derivatives. That means there WILL be a question on the second midterm which asks the students to find where a function is increasing/decreasing by using derivatives. The remaining topics of 12.1 will be covered after the exam.
This exam will be about 40% different from old exams (due to the new textbook). It will consist of 12 functions which need to be differentiated using the various rules and combinations thereof. There will also be 3 additional questions taken from the following topics: implicit differentiation, finding tangent lines, marginal cost (profit, revenue) and increasing/decreasing functions. Note, there is an example of these 4 topics on the MML exam review. So, there are MANY questions on the exam.

In 12.6, the book primarily uses the second derivative test to verify max/min. You can also use the first derivative test. On the exam you can use either unless you are given instructions to use a specific one. The first derivative test is general while the second derivative test is convenient.
